Nevada freshman basketball team opens season on high note

The Nevada Tigers freshman basketball team won its season-opener Friday in Kansas City, knocking off the St. Pius X Warriors 52-39. It was also Nevada head coach Cory Kerbs first-career victory. For the Tigers, freshman forward Dalton Gayman finished with a double-double, tallying 26 points and 14 rebounds.

The Tigers jumped out to a 21-6 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter, before grabbing a commanding 32-19 halftime lead. The Tigers then ran way with the game in the third quarter as Gayman dropped in a dozen points, upping Nevada's advantage 48-19 through three quarter of play. In addition to Gayman's 26, Austin Bash also finished with in double-figures with 16.
