Sommer joins Tigers 1,000 point club

Nevada Tigers senior point guard Matthew Sommer is the newest member of the school's 1,000 point club. Sommer achieved the milestone during Friday night's West Central Conference road contest against Warrensburg. A third quarter 3-pointer put Sommer over the top.

"It's been very rewarding to see Matt continue to grow as a basketball player and a young man," Tigers head coach Shaun Gray said. "He's a great example for younger kids, that if you work hard and make the right choices in life ---- you can put yourself in a good position to succeed."

Gray added the many Nevada fans who made the trip to Warrensburg brought cowbells for extra noise in anticipation of Sommer reaching 1,000 points.

"I tried to call a timeout after his third quarter 3-pointer so he could get an ovation," Gray said. "But the crowd was so loud that the officials didn't hear me. He still got a standing ovation from the Nevada faithful ---- the crowd went wild for him"

Gray said the school is planning a ceremony for Sommer in order to recognize the feat. Gray added the ceremony will take place prior to a home game, but that the exact date has not yet been determined.
