Lady Hornets tripped up by Drexel

Friday, January 6, 2017

Upon its return from Christmas break, the Hume Lady Hornets were defeated 55-23 by the visiting Drexel Lady Bobcats Wednesday night.

Hume trailed 16-7 after one quarter of play. The Lady Bobcats then opened up a 37-9 halftime lead after going on a 21-2 second quarter blitz.

Hume then cut into the lead in the third, outscoring Drexel 12-5, but was unable to draw any closer as the Lady Bobcats pulled away in the fourth.

"I was hoping coming off of break that we would be better with the basketball," Lady Hornets head coach Heath Heckadon said.

"We aren't strong with the basketball and still turn the ball over way too much to beat good teams like Drexel. It's frustrating because I know we can play better than we are right now. We have to find ways to score to help our defense."

With the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in GVVC-play.

For Hume, sophomore Hannah Gorda finished with a team-high 7 points; Hannah Swickhamer, 6; and Karlee Metcalf, 4.
