Thursday, February 2, 2017

In Monday night hoops action the Sheldon Panther and Lady Panther basketball teams were defeated by Dadeville in a pair of non-conference road contests.

The Panthers (10-9) fell 48-35, while the Lady Panthers (2-12) were defeated 50-30.

For the Panthers, Kaleb Martin finished with a team-high 14 points, followed by Zavery Lamb with 10 and Brett O'Connor, eight.

"The teams fought the entire night," said Dusty Murray, who is the head coach for both the Sheldon boys' and girls' teams. "The boys played as a whole group today and we were beat by a few outside shots. We had some very good looks and unfortunately couldn't finish on some of those looks tonight."

Murray continued, "The girls played with the type of sportsmanship throughout the game that I'm very proud of. When things didn't go our way they didn't get their heads down and they were quick to help the opponents off the floor. We moved the ball really well, and on the defensive side we didn't get overwhelmed. Murray added that the Lady Panthers will focus in practice on defensive footwork and rebounding positioning.

Sheldon's top three scorers against Dadeville were, Meckinize McCartney with 12 points, Mahalia Swink with seven and Nici Hites, six.
