Tigers advance to district championship game

The second-seeded Nevada Tiger basketball team defeated fourth-seeded Warrensburg 51-42 in the semifinals of the Class 4 District 12 Tournament Tuesday night in Clinton.

The victory was Nevada's 18th in a row, as the Tigers advance to face top-seeded Grandview in the district title game, with tip off slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In the early semifinal matchup Tuesday, Grandview crushed fourth-seeded Clinton 79-57.

Against Warrensburg, Nevada held a slim 24-22 lead at the half. After three quarters of play the Tigers led 34-30. Midway through the fourth a 7-0 blitz pushed Nevada's advantage to nine at 43-34. Warrensburg made one final charge, as a 6-0 run trimmed its deficit to 43-40 with 1:35 remaining in regulation. The Tigers then salted away the game from the charity stripe.

For Nevada (23-3) Gayman finished with a game-high 21 points while senior forward Braeden Hinton added a dozen.
