Free rides to the Vernon County Bed & Breakfast

Saturday, March 11, 2017

The sales team (deputies) have been doing a great job at marketing the services we offer here at the Vernon County Bed & Breakfast. Customer acquisition has been high and all our beds have been sold out, many by return customers.

One such customer was obtained recently because a deputy, who had just looked through a list of wanted people, located a person with warrants by recognizing the mustache on the man's face as the same mustache in one of the photos of wanted people. It was a very nice mustache, but it did stand out just a little; so, if you're avoiding jail, maybe don't do the mustache.

Deputies have arrested people because they called the police on someone else only to realize that when you have an active warrant yourself, you will be the one arrested when the deputies arrive. And it never fails that we end up arresting someone during a traffic stop because they couldn't help from blurting out "there are no drugs in my car" even though we never asked about drugs. A good rule to go by is, don't do that when you have a bunch of drugs in your car. If you feel the spontaneous need to say you have no drugs, the deputy will take that as a clue.

The same rule also applies when a deputy knocks on your door to ask a question about a neighbor and before he can say anything you scream, "there isn't anyone in my house with a warrant." In the language of LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) that means, "there are people hiding in my house."

Deputies have a chance to meet a lot of people when giving them free rides to the jail and they do not mind at all being a listing ear to whatever is on your heart to tell them. In some cases, this might be someone who had a little too much to drink singing the deputy a song, or it could be someone trying to give the deputies directions to the jail (deputies already know how to get there).

The vehicles that deputies drive when offering these free rides include a very safe and secure area for your safety. There is a very compact cage for you to sit in with bars over the glass to help protect you during your ride. We also take pride in our transportation services because we will come to you no matter where you are!

If you have a ticket for a ride (warrant) we will come get you even if you are far away, and you will have the opportunity of enjoying a nice view from inside the cage during the entire trip. In some cases, you will get to ride with other people who also have their own tickets.

There are just a few housekeeping rules before riding in a VCSO taxi so it is good to know ahead of time what can and cannot be taken with you. The first thing is that bags of drugs, glass pipes and needles are not allowed. The deputy will be asking for any of those items prior to beginning the ride. Second is that only those who have tickets can go. If your buddy wants to come with you, he has to get his own ticket; but asking the deputy if he can ride up front while you ride in the back in handcuffs is not allowed.

There is no smoking during the ride so asking multiple times to smoke while in transport will always be denied. We also want to make sure your ride is as safe as possible so the vehicle you are riding in is monitored with a tracking device and the deputy will also notify dispatch when they are heading to the jail with you in the car.

The ride is free, safe, and not so comfortable, but one thing to remember is that it is up to you if you want to take that ride. Although it is free, it may be better to go a different route and avoid the Vernon County Bed & Breakfast altogether.
