Nevada Police Department recently reported an increase in vehicle theft over the past couple weeks.

"All were preventable crimes," detective sergeant Joshua Westerhold said. "please lock your stuff up."

Westerhold said suspects had been identified in several of the cases and more information would be provided pending the filing of formal charges.

On March 28, Nevada Police Department posted the following on their Facebook page, "We would like to remind everyone to please take anything of value out of your vehicle including: purses, wallets, firearms, credit cards, money, etc. when leaving your vehicle unoccupied, and please lock your vehicle. All of the thefts have happened to cars being left unlocked with the keys inside the vehicle."

"I think it is so dumb to leave your keys in the car," Jo Hymer commented on Nevada Police Department's Facebook post. "Isn't that just asking for trouble? I always lock my car no matter where I am! Never leave anything of value in it either! Thanks for all you guys do."

Randy Kappel commented, "Lived here in Nevada for a little over a year now. I am only one citizen, but the Nevada Police Department and Vernon County Sheriff's Office deserve far more recognition than they get. Thanks y'all."

Anyone with questions should contact the Nevada Police Department at 417-448-2710.
