No injuries in weekend fire

The residents of 617 S. Main St. escaped injury early Saturday morning when their home caught fire.

According to fire chief William Thornton, firefighters were called to the home of Theresa Mann at 4:17 a.m. for the report of a building fire.

“The cause of the fire was electrical,” Thornton said.

Firefighters arrived at the house to find smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the home. The firefighters extinguished the fire with hose lines from inside the house and checked to ensure the fire had not spread elsewhere in the home.

Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $42,000. Nine fighters spent two hours at the home extinguishers the fire.
