John Wayne DeVan, 86, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Sunday, April 23, at his home in Lansing, Kan. John was born March 18, 1931, in Mobile, Ala., to Wilbur and Marguerite Wagner DeVan. On Sept. 8, 1956, John was married in Omaha, Neb., to Nancy Jane Hagerman and she preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2013.

John was raised in Alabama and graduated high school in New York. John attended John’s Hopkins University and graduated from Creighton University in Omaha. Following college, John was commissioned into the United States Army serving almost three years until being honorably discharged in 1956.

John worked for International Harvester in Grand Island, Neb., A.O. Smith in Milwaukee, Wisc., and in 1972 came to Nevada where he worked 11 years for K.W. Harvestore. John and Nancy returned to Omaha, Neb., where he served as Credit Manager for Valmont Industries. In 200l, John and Nancy retired to Bentonville, Ark.

Survivors include three children, Julie Kibble and her husband, Steve, Fort Scott, Ken DeVan and his wife, Cindy, Leavenworth, Kan., Allison Ferry and her husband, David, Nevada; ten grandchildren, Kelli Mintz and her husband, Ryan, Kristin Clark, Drew Clark and his wife, Erica, Jessica DeVan, Megan Devan and her husband, Casey Hall, Joseph Ferry, Patrick Ferry, Lindley Ferry, Lindsay Hoskinson and Leslie May; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann LaMorte, Cleveland, Tenn.; one brother, Robert DeVan, Mason Ga.; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Louis DeVan.

Committal services with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott.
