Comets compete at nationals

Saturday, May 20, 2017

A pair of Cottey Comets’ track athletes were in action Friday at the NJCAA Nationals at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

Oluwabukola Pereira finished fourth in her 1,500 meter heat and will compete in the finals, slated for this afternoon. Pereira was only two second shy of the school record, which she already owns.

“Coach (Austin) Bunn gave her the go-ahead to turn the jets down (late in the event), knowing she would qualify for the finals –– allowing Bukola to save some extra energy (for Saturday),” said Stephanie Beason, Comets’ athletic director.

Cottey’s other student-athlete competing, Lexi Gradwohl, finished 16th in the 10K Friday.
