Mural being moved

Julie Stephenson, lower left, hands Peggy Van Witt a rag while Scout Marshall uses a heat gun Monday to remove the mural in the old public safety building in Nevada. Siegfried Rienhardt painted the three-panel mural in 1975 depicting the history of Vernon County when it was commissioned by the Richardson Foundation. The mural is a natural, tight-weave linen and was mounted to the wall with a resin adhesive which only releases by heat. Van Witt said they were “very fortunate” the artist chose linen because it is a very durable material. The mural will be temporarily stored at City Hall, but anyone interested in possibly displaying it can contact the city for further information.
