Nettie Maye Phillips

Nettie Maye Phillips, 86, of Nevada, passed away Friday July 7, at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Nettie was born March 22, 1931, in Green Forest, Ark., the daughter of John Elmer and Ella Mae (Mills) Connelly.

Nettie graduated from Kim High School in Kim, Colo. She was married to Robert Venter and later married Jim Phillips. She lived most of her adult life in Nevada where she was an active member of the Bible Baptist Church. Nettie worked as a seamstress for Nellie Don Clothing Manufacturing for 39 years before retiring. She enjoyed attending the local car races with Jim and their children and watching NASCAR on television. Every year she looked forward to going on a retreat with all the females of the family to the Lake of the Ozarks. Nettie will be remembered for being very faithful to God, and for being a very independent, wise and caring wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply for all of her family.

Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; daughter, Debi Wadel; granddaughter, Mimi Morton; great-granddaughter, Victoria Brown; and brother, Jurl Connelly.

Survivors include three children, Sherri Baggett (Karl), Nevada; Joyce Brown (Harold), Belton; and Kevin Reeves, Nevada; six step-children, Betty Phillips, Wichita, Kan.: Billy Phillips (Christy) Ft. Scott; Rose Thomas, Pittsburg, Kan., Teresa Allen (Ricky), Frontenac; Jerry Phillips, Florida; and Dottie Pulliam (Rodney), Mapleton, Kan.; 26 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Connelly (Connie), Nevada; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Pyle of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Scott. Visitation will be from 7:30–8:30 p.m., on Monday at the Funeral Home.
