The Midwest A’s finished 4-0 this past weekend at the Wood Bat Challenge held at the Champion Diamonds in Nevada. The A’s are a local team, competing in the 13-and-under AAA division (after being bumped up late in the season from the AA division). The A’s have had a phenomenal season on the diamond, as their recent tournament dominance improved their overall record to 48-14. The A’s, coached by Doug Sanderson, are in their fifth season together, and are currently ranked No. 11 in the Missouri 13-and-under AAA division Top 25 poll. At the Wood Bat Challenge, the A’s opened pool play by dealing a KCSC Blaze a 9-1 defeat, and then followed up with a 6-3 victory over Building Champions Ferguson. After advancing to the semifinals, the A’s then steamrolled the Blaze for a second time, 10-2 in bracket-play. In the championship game, A’s starter Case Sanderson was lights out, tossing a one-hit, five inning complete-game shutout, as the A’s triumphed 12-0 over the Carl Junction Rage.
