JEFFERSON CITY, MO — A “Discover Your District” event has been planned specifically for adults working with our area youth. Area educators and youth leaders, from Bates and Vernon counties, are invited to a one-hour lunch program on Thursday, Aug. 3, at noon, to be held at the Battle of Island Mound State Historical Site and State Park, west of Butler, Mo. (directions below). A complementary lunch and an update about our area parks and historical resources will be provided. This information can then be utilized for programming, lessons, project ideas, field trips (and funding), classroom resources, meeting sites, etc.

Topics will include an update from Missouri Department of Natural Resources — area sites and programming, including the big fall event being planned for 2018; Conservation resources, Area museum and historical site information; Information from Rep. Pike on visiting the Mo. State Capitol and other areas of interest in Jefferson City; and resources available on how to fund field trips.

Directions: From Butler, Mo., at the overpass of I-49 and Hwy 52, drive west on Hwy 52 for approximately 7.5 miles. At the Battle of Island Mound sign, turn south onto K Highway and continue south to gravel road, NW 1002 Road, and another Battle of Island Mound sign. Turn back west and travel a short distance west and you’ve arrived!

RSVP: For purposes of meal planning, please RSVP by noon, Wednesday, Aug. 2, to: Patricia.Pike@house.mo.gov or call 573-751-5388 and talk with Legislative Assistant, Beth Rohrbach or Rep. Pike.

Our office will also be available to answer any questions about the event. Scholars from all over the country travel to study in our historic area and we are pleased to be able to host this informative event at one of Missouri’s newest state parks, located right in our own 126th District!
