Middle school Tigers hit the gridiron

The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth-grade teams opened their respective seasons this week. The Seventh-grade A-team kicked things off Tuesday at Logan Field against Joplin North/East, with the contest concluding in a 6-6- tie. The Tigers lone score came on the third play of the game, when Case Sanderson broke off a 55-yard touchdown run. Joplin scored late in the fourth, on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line, but failed to punch in the two-point conversion. The Tigers prevailed in the seventh-grade B contest, winning 6-0. Nevada’s Blake Cox played hero, returning an interception 35 yards for the only score of the game.

Nevada’s eighth-grade A-team opened its season Thursday at Logan Field, hosting Joplin North/East. Nevada trailed 22-0 at halftime, before eventually falling 35-0. Nevada came out on top in the B-game, edging Joplin 12-8. The Tigers two scores came on rushing touchdowns, a 65-yard Max Julian scamper and a 28-yard Chance Dighero run.
