The Hume Lady Hornets continued their impressive play on the volleyball court in a Friday night Golden Valley Vernon County Conference home match, toppling the Sheldon Lady Panthers in straight sets: 25-13 and 25-7.

“I was impressed with the level of play I saw from my girls tonight,” said first-year Hume head coach, Jackie Harter. “We continued to play with energy and hustle, even with a large lead. A lot of teams tend to let up and just go through the motions when they are in that position.”

Outside hitter Hannah Swickhamer was unstoppable while serving, as the Hume senior tallied 10 aces, to go along with four kills.

Fellow senior Lady Hornet Malia McFrederick chipped in a half-dozen digs and four aces, while junior middle hitter Hannah Gorda concluded with seven digs, five kills and a block. Meanwhile, Hume sophomore libero Deborah Yarick, added six digs.

Team totals for Hume included: 22 digs, 20 aces, 14 kills and 13 assists.

“(With the lead), my girls continued to swing and serve aggressively and hustle after every ball,” said Harter. “With postseason right around the corner, I couldn’t be happier with what I see right now.”
