Lady Tigers trump Clinton, fall to St. Pius

Getting back on the winning track, the Nevada Lady Tiger volleyball team breezed to a two-set conference victory over the visiting Clinton Lady Cardinals on Dig Pink Night, Tuesday at Wynn Gym.

Nevada then returned to the court Thursday, for a West Central Conference road match in Kansas City, falling to the St. Pius X Lady Warriors in two sets.

Nevada (11-12 overall, 3-5 GVVC) bested Clinton in the first set 25-23, before taking the second set 25-17, as the Lady Cardinals fell to 0-20 on the season.

For Nevada, junior setter Hailey Jackson finished with 20 assists; Adrian Bond, eight kills; Stacy Pennington, eight assists; and Lindley Ferry, three blocks.

Nevada’s junior varsity team was toppled by Clinton in three sets — 25-18, (25-23), (15-11). The Lady Tiger freshman team was also derailed by Clinton in three sets — 25-21, (25-17), (15-9).

In Thursday’s match with St. Pius (20-1-3, 10-0 WCC), Nevada dropped the first set 25-14, and was then edged in the second set, 25-22.

For the Lady Tigers, Jackson tallied 17 assists and 10 digs, while Bond registered a team-high 11 kills. Also against St. Pius, Nevada’s junior varsity team was bested in two sets — 25-19 and 25-12, while the NHS freshman team fell 25-12 and 25-15.

The Lady Tigers return to the court this weekend for the Clinton Invitational.
