Lady Hornets sting Rich Hill in straight set sweep

Sunday, October 15, 2017

The Hume Lady Hornets capped their regular-season on a high-note Thursday evening, toppling the Rich Hill Lady Tigers in straight sets — 25-20, 25-22.

“We were beyond excited to beat Rich Hill,” said first-year Hume volleyball head coach, Jackie Harter. “This is the first time that any of the girls have beaten Rich Hill in their careers, so it was a huge night for them.”

Added Harter: “One huge contribution to our success was our defensive effort. We serve-received at a very efficient ratio, and also kept them out-of-system with our serves. Collectively, our defense was pretty impeccable; we had four players with double-digit digs.”

The Lady Hornets concluded with 64 total digs, with sophomore libero Deborah Yarick finishing with 20, while junior Hannah Gorda added 15.

“I was particularly pleased to see how well Deborah was able to read (Rich Hill’s) arm-swings, and pick up a lot balls,” noted Harter.

For Hume, senior setter Karlee Metcalf concluded with eight assists, while fellow senior Malia McFrederick recorded a team-high five aces to go along with a pair of kills.
