Competing in back-to-back events, the Sheldon R-8 cross country team concluded its regular-season Oct. 18 at the Lakeland Invitational in Deepwater, Mo.

A day earlier, Sheldon’s three-member team took part in the El Dorado Springs Invitational. At the event, Sheldon junior Matt Bogart, placed 35th in the varsity boys 5K, clocking a time of 20.33. In Deepwater, Bogart set a personal best with a time of 20.02 — bringing his season average to 21.01.

“Matt has consistently shown improvement, in both decreasing running times and, increasing the spacing between him and competitors,” said Sheldon XC coach, Mike Galimberto. “Matt has also shown effective finishing speeds close to the finish line.”

Sheldon freshman Judd Loyd placed 56th in El Do with a time of 24.12. Loyd then improved his time, clocking a personal best 22.09 at the Lakeland invite, to finish in 51st place. The personal best brought Loyd’s season average to 24.05.

“Judd has continued to work both in the middle and ends of a race, and did very well competing for good finishes at both meets,” noted Galimberto.

Sheldon sophomore Nici Hites competed in the El Do girls varsity 5K. At the El Do Invitational, Hites clocked a 29.44 en route to a 33rd-place finish.

“She did an excellent job, considering she was not feeling well,” said Galimberto. “She is always determined to finish whatever is put before her.”

Sheldon is set to compete in the Class 1 District 4 meet, tomorrow at Clever High School.

“Having this week off from competition, we worked on more hill-work and longer distance practice running, (in order) to produce even better times and placings,” said Galimberto.
