Friday, December 15, 2017

Janet Ruth Burrell, 71, Nevada, departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at her home in Nevada. Janet was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Neosho, Mo., to Charles and Eloise Jones.

Janet grew up in Neosho. She graduated from Neosho High School and attended Crowder College for one year. Janet married Jim Burrell in 1965 and they celebrated over 52 years of marriage together. Their first home was at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and then they were relocated to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived for two years. Following Jim’s years in the Air Force, they moved to Joplin where Janet worked at SW Bell Telephone Company until Jim graduated from Missouri Southern State College in 1971. At that time they came to Nevada and Janet worked at Nevada R-5 School District for several years and then began employment at 3M where she was employed for 15 years until she retired due to health reasons. Janet loved her family with all of her heart. She enjoyed “digging in the dirt,” and spending time with her family and friends. She will be sorely missed.

In addition to her husband Jim of the home, she is survived by two children, Jeff Burrell, Nevada, and Jenny Reece, Montrose, Mo.; two grandchildren, Ethan James Burrell, Fort Scott, and Adisson Sky J. Reese, Montrose; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandmother, Mrs. Nelle Alice Oliver-Tarrant.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 18, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Sharon Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
