Kathy Marie Poe

Kathy Marie Poe, 60, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. Kathy was born Aug. 22, 1957, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Marlo Eugene and Elizabeth (Schinkel) Swenson. On May 20, 1978, she married Gregg H. Poe in Aberdeen, S.D., and they celebrated almost 40 years together.

Kathy grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1975. Following high school, she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen for two years. Kathy worked for 20 years as a church secretary in Fremont, Neb., and at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nevada. For the past 12 years she and Gregg have lived in Nevada.

Kathy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved animals and enjoyed reading. Kathy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nevada.

In addition to her husband Gregg, survivors include two children, Erin Rodgers and her husband Keith, Omaha, Neb., and Erik Poe and his wife Sarah, Aberdeen, S.D.; grandchildren, Jack Rodgers, Cole Rodgers, Emma Poe, Audrey Poe and Merritt Poe; two brothers, Richard Swenson and his wife Linda, Aberdeen, S.D., and Randy Swenson and his wife Diane, Aberdeen, S.D.; one sister, LeaAnn Crane and her husband Scott, Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nevada with the Rev. Chris Deines officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
