Tiger grapplers gearing up for Class 2 district wrestling tournament

Coach David Hawk’s Nevada Tiger wrestling squad has undergone an intense week of practice in preparation of today’s Class 2 District 3 wrestling tournament in Clinton.

“It’s a tough district,” noted Hawks. “I think our district is one of the toughest in the state — with teams like Monett, Odessa and Bolivar, who all very strong this year. So we’re going to have our hands full, trying to get guys to place in the top four, in order to qualify for state.”

Nevada boasts a trio of wrestlers with top four individual seeds: Adam Guenther, No. 2 seed, 182 pounds; Caleb Longobardi, No. 2, 220 pounds; and Peyton Denney, No. 2, 285 (heavyweight). Netting a top four seed is important, as those wrestlers receive an opening round bye.

“We’re excited for the challenge this weekend,” noted Hawk’s, as the tournament concludes Saturday. “We have several kids with a great opportunity to get to the state tournament.”
