Nevada High’s Gundy collects first-place at Fair Grove powerlifting meet
In their first competition of the season, Nevada High School’s powerlifting team flexed its muscle at the Fair Grove powerlifting meet on Feb. 3.
Guided by head coach Wes Beachler, NHS senior Sammy Gundy placed first overall in her class, after a spectacular showing in the bench press, deadlift and squat. In addition, Gundy netted a third-place overall finish in the girls power index, which combines all classes. Also for the Lady Tigers, Haiden Richmond notched a fourth-place overall finish.
Meanwhile, for the Nevada boys, freshman Kaden Denney placed third overall in his class; Lukas Kaemmerling, fourth; Shawn Thornburg, fifth; while Tristan Butler, Cayden Rinker and Braxton Shadden tied for sixth.
Other Nevada High student-athletes who competed, included Nevada’s Jarrett Owen, who deadlifted 400 pounds on his final lift — while Shawn Prentice deadlifted 315 pounds.
