NHS distance runner Beshore continues standout season, competes in Kansas Relays
Nevada High School sophomore Calli Beshore showcased her skills at the 91st annual Kansas Relays Friday and Saturday at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas.
The high school competition took place April 18-19, with collegiate athletes taking center stage April 20-21.
Beshore’s magnificent season resulted in the invitation to the premier event, in which the super sophomore student-athlete competed in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter events.
“The KU Relays is one of the most prestigious meets held in the Midwest,” noted NHS track coach, Kirk Miller. “Student-athletes from as far as 500 miles away attended the event.”
Battling rugged elements Friday, Beshore placed 20th out of 24 in the 3,200 meter run, clocking a time of 11:46.16. Victoria Findley of Blue Springs South H.S., claimed gold with a time of 10:35.25.
Beshore returned the following day, placing 24th out of 42 in the 1,600 meter run, blazing to a time of 5:23.98. Meanwhile, Findley clocked a 4:56.27, en route to her second gold.
“It was a great opportunity to run against the best distance runners in the Midwest,” Beshore told the Daily Mail. “I loved the facilities, and getting to watch the high school and college runners.”
On the H.S. boys side, Webb City’s Ryan Riddle dusted the competition in the 3,200, winning the event by nearly five seconds (4:15.65).
According to kuathletics.com, “both Riddle and Findley automatically qualify for the adidas Dream Mile, to be contested this summer in New York City amongst the top high school milers from around the U.S.”
