Oren Leonard Martin, age 102, of rural El Dorado Springs, passed away May 2, 2018, at Community Springs Healthcare in El Dorado Springs. Oren was born April 10, 1916, in Vernon County, the second son of Charlie Martin and Iva Whitesell Martin.

He married Frieda Kicenski on April 16, 1952. They were married 64 years before her passing in 2016.

Oren lived his entire life on farms around Dederick, with the exception of the time spent in Texas during his Army service. For several years when he was young, he would go to Iowa in the fall for a couple months to earn money shucking corn by hand, then return home to continue his farming. He grew up in the era of farming with horses and for many years raised and trained horses. Farming wasn’t his job, it was his life. He loved farming, especially his horses and cows.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Frieda; his parents; son, Lynn Martin; brothers, Kenneth Martin and Marvin Vickers; sisters, Beulah Pennock, Lora Vickers, Cleo Spencer, Pauline Lowe, Wilma Vittetoe and Louise Gilbert; and step-brother, Walt Vickers.

Survivors include son, Daniel Martin (wife Mollie), of Sidney, Australia; daughters, Lois Hoover (husband RC), of El Dorado Springs, Glenda Allen, of Monett, Mo., and Jan Jacquinot (husband Richard), of St. Paul, Kan.; sisters, Reta Gilpin and Wilda Hall, of El Dorado Springs, and Donna Woody, of Mt Vernon; sister-in-law, Shirley Vickers; brother-in-law, Waldo Kicenski; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Funeral services for Oren Martin will be held Monday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with the Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Chris Vickers, Clint Vickers, Lonnie Gilpin, Fred Lowe, Louis Woody and Wayne Pennock.
