Nevada High School student-athletes and coaches will get down to business Monday morning, as official practices for the fall sports season are slated to open.

Additionally, it’s the dawn of a new era for Nevada R-5 athletics, with the school district set begin play in the 14-team, two-division Big 8 Conference. Nevada R-5 is making the move after having been affiliated with the West Central Conference for the past four years.

For the Nevada High football team, practice begins bright and early Monday morning, as the three-hour “helmets only” workout kicks off at 6:30 a.m.

At the conclusion of the first week of practice, Wes Beachler’s Tiger football squad will participate in an intra-squad scrimmage, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 11) at Logan Field.

Next on the agenda for Nevada football is the Aug. 17 Carthage Jamboree, as the Tigers will scrimmage against host Carthage, Carl Junction and Monett. Nevada then opens its regular season Aug. 24 on the road against Reeds Spring.
