Nevada JV, freshman VB teams compete in tournament-play

The Nevada Lady Tiger junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams were in action over the weekend, competing at separate tournaments.

The Lady Tiger junior varsity spikers got in five matches Saturday, finishing 2-3 at the Pittsburg (Kan.) JV Tournament. Nevada opened with a two-set (17-25, 11-25) loss to Frontenac (Kan.), and followed with a victory a two-set (25-19, 25-16) victory over Southeast (Kan.). In their third match, Nevada dispatched Neosho 25-15, 25-22. The Lady Tigers then dropped their final two matches of the day, falling in bracket-play to Colgan (Kan.) 15-25, 22-25; and Pasrons (Kan.) 19-25, 16-25 — as Nevada’s JV squad moves to 12-10 on the season.

The Lady Tiger freshman spikers, meanwhile, finished 1-2-1 at the North Kansas City Tournament. In pool-play, Nevada and Park Hill South concluded in a two-set tie — with the Lady Tigers taking the first set 25-20, and dropping the second, 22-25. Nevada then matched up with the St. Pius X Lady Warriors, falling in two sets 12-25, 18-25. Nevada wrapped pool-play with a 25-21, 25-11 triumph over Maryville — earning second-place in their pool. In bracket-play, the Lady Tigers were derailed in three sets by St. Joe’s Central —24-26, 25-17, 11-25, brining their day to a close — and moving their record to 13-7-2.

Nevada hosts Lamar in a Big 8 Conference West division clash, Tuesday. The varsity/junior varsity doubleheader is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start-time.
