Lady Tigers hammer Chicks, 13-2, advance to district title tilt
PLEASANT HILL — The Nevada Lady Tigers ran roughshod over the Pleasant Hill Chicks on Thursday, drilling the Class 3 District 13 Softball Tournament hosts, 13-2 in the semifinals.
The convincing victory advances No. 3 seed Nevada to today’s district championship game, and a matchup with top-seeded Warrensburg.
Originally scheduled for Pleasant Hill, the contest has been moved due to weather concerns, with the first pitch now slated for 1 p..m. at Excelsior Springs.
Against No. 2 seed Pleasant Hill, Nevada led 3-1, before exploding for six runs in the top of the sixth. The Lady Tigers then tacked on four in the seventh to go in front 13-1.
Maggie Leisure was superb in the circle, as Nevada’s junior hurler allowed an earned run, while striking out a batter and walking none across seven frames of work.
Nevada senior outfielder Naudea Dodds stayed on fire at the dish, finishing 2-for-5 with five RBI. Nevada senior catcher Cameron Holcomb, meanwhile, chipped in a 2-for-4 3 RBI performance, while sophomore shortstop Tylin Heathman also collected a multi-hit performance.
The postseason victory moves Nevada to 15-14 overall.
