Nevada High School, middle school grapplers host home meets

In their home-debut Thursday evening at Wynn Gym, the Nevada Tiger wrestling team was upended by visiting Osage and Bolivar high schools. Nevada fell to Osage 60-18, and was defeated by Bolivar, 57-18.

Nevada’s lone wrestler to notch a pair of victories was Caleb Longobari, as the senior standout upped his record to 7-1 through the first two meets of the season.

“It was a tough night on the mats,” said third-year Nevada head coach David Hawks. “We came out flat against Osage, we weren’t quite ready. I thought we wrestled better against Bolivar. Although, the score may not have necessarily reflected that, our effort was certainly better.”

Added Hawks: “(Freshman) Ethan Dighero was wrestling a tough senior, and he didn’t get intimidated by (the) older wrestler.”

The Nevada Middle School wrestling team concluded its regular-season with Monday’s home meet against Webb City, as the Tigers prevailed over the visitors after winning 26 of 48 matches.

Nevada’s top individual performance was notched by seventh-grader Kynndrick Brooks, as the 75-pounder dazzled on the mat, concluding the evening with a perfect 4-0 record. Nevada’s Blake Cox, weighing in at 104 pounds, was also impressive, tallying a trio of victories.
