Lady ’Cats comeback comes up just short

In a Golden City Tournament consolation bracket match-up Friday night, the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats were edged by Dadeville, 46-45.

Bronaugh (7-7) trailed 28-15 at halftime, but stormed back in the third quarter, knotting the contest 34-34 after outscoring Dadeville 19-6.

Trailing by a point with time winding down in regulation, Bronaugh’s Mattie Earnest, Josie Banes, and Paige Wait each misfired on jumpers, as Dadeville was able to hang on for the narrow victory.

“It was a good comeback in the second half,” said Bronaugh head coach Daryl Dodson. “Plus, we had three shots to win the game and none went in. We just need to keep working towards a (full) 32 minute game.”

For Bronaugh, sophomore sharpshooter Bailey Cliffman concluded with a game-high 16 points, which included a pair of 3’s. Lady ’Cats freshman point guard Nicole Hagerman chipped in 13 points and five steals, while Wait recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
