National Honor Society inductees honored in ceremony

ew members were inducted into the National Honor Society on Monday, Feb. 25. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students.

Twenty-nine Nevada High School students were inducted as new members of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held at the school on Monday. Kent Pruitt, 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year, gave a short keynote address. A reception followed.

Members were selected by the chapter’s faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. “We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for, and then expected to continue, their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” Chapter Adviser Tammy McCallister said.

The Nevada High School chapter has been active for over 50 years. Each year the chapter sponsors at least one service project for the school and community which in the last few years have included after school tutoring programs at the middle school and high school and sponsoring Safe and Sober week during the week before prom.

The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. There are chapters in more than 16,000 high schools and, since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership.

Millions of dollars in scholarships have been awarded to senior members since 1945 by the sponsoring organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Students inducted were: senior Melanie Rives; juniors John Daugherty, Elizabeth Mosher, Hallie Short, and Makananoukua Wilde; sphomores Logan Applegate, Toree Beisley, Hallie Bond, Alison Bower, Lucas Corbin, Abigail Cornett, Jocelyn Diehl, Kaylee Duncan, Sarina Eaton, Megan Ferris, Eden Fisher, Emma Follmer, Anna Grier, Abby Harder, Tylin Heathman, Maleigha Hinton, Macie Lynch, Ezinne Mba, Kayla Portwood, Brinna Ream, Caitlyn Roberts, Kadence Trosper, Camryn Warner, and Blair Wilson.
