Lady Hornets down Lockwood, Jasper, off to sizzling start

The Hume Lady Hornet softball team has served notice that they’re for real.

Hume’s impressive start to the season continued with a pair of non-conference road victories over Jasper and Lockwood.

The victories improved the red-hot Lady Hornets to 4-0 overall.

The Lady Hornets delivered a 14-3 five-inning (run-rule) thumping to Jasper (March 22). Hume then returned to the diamond (March 25), and trounced Lockwood, 12-2 in six innings.

Lady Hornet star sophomore pitcher Kennidi Harris shut down Jasper, striking out five and walking none in five scoreless innings of work.

Hume also tore the cover off the ball, concluding with 18 hits. The Lady Hornets were led by Hannah Gorda’s two-hit, five RBI performance, and Braelynn Morrison’s four-hit day. Also notching multi-hit performance for the Lady Hornets, were Jaylyn Rogers, Katlyn Brooks, Harris, and Sidnee Moore.

Harris then returned to the mound against Lockwood, fanning 10 in six dominant innings of work.

Morrison and Brooks led the hit-parade for Hume, with three base-knocks apiece. Gorda, Harris, Morrison, Anna Spencer, and Dalton Hess collected two hits apiece for Hume. Brooks and Mackinizi Harris, meanwhile, combined to drive in five runs.
