Mary Patricia King, 84, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at her home in Nevada following a brief illness. Mary was born March 4, 1935, in Nevada, to James A. and Mary Magdalene (Beason) Thorburn.

Mary grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1953. She worked as a secretary for the Grandview Police Department in the 1970s and later for Westinghouse in Kansas City until her retirement. She came back to Nevada in 1997 and worked for a short time at Nevada City Hall. Mary enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening, fishing, and most of all loved being with her family.

She was married to Charles Richard King Sr. and from this marriage survives their daughter, Sharon Crews, Nevada; and son, Rick King, Lamar, Mo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Renee King, Yuma, Ariz., Keri Stewart (Rick), Chanute, Kan., Sara Plunkett, Belton,Mo., Patrick Crews (Melea) Nevada, Matthew Crews, Nevada, and Kenzie Burchell (Ethan), Oronogo, Mo.; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roberta Miller, Blue Springs, Mo., and Linda Hurst (Joe), Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death her parents; daughter, Cathy Plunkett; granddaughter, Melissa Allman; sister, Dorothy Cartwright; and brother, Roy Thorburn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Community of Christ Church in Nevada in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
