GVVC volleyball results

Several area Golden Valley Vernon County Conference (GVVC) volleyball teams have had busy slates the past week, as they've entered the heart of their schedules.

The Northeast Vernon County Lady Knights knocked off the visiting Sheldon Lady Panthers in two sets Monday — 25-16, 25-21.

The victory, coupled with Tuesday's three-set win over visiting Ballard improves NEVC to 5-5 overall (4-2 GVVC). Sheldon, who had notched a decisive two-set conference road victory over the Hume Lady Hornets on Monday, moves to 6-12-1 overall (4-1 GVVC).

"This was not our best performance," said Sheldon head coach Emily Godsey, of Tuesday's loss to NEVC. "We have had two (consecutive) weeks with only one game per week. I had hoped the extra practice would pay off, but we were caught on our heels and not ready for NEVC. Northeast came into the game with something to prove, and I believe they proved it loud and clear tonight. We will be using our next two practices to buckle down and work hard for (rematch) with Hume Thursday." For Sheldon, Hailey Hibbitts tallied a team-high four kills.

Prior to Monday's conference loss to Sheldon, Hume (5-10) was in action at the Archie Tournament, absorbing a trio of two-set losses. Hume fell to host Archie — 6-25, 15-25. They were then bested by Drexel 18-25, 14-25. In their final match, they fell to Holden — 9-25, 15-25. They then fell to Rich Hill in two sets on Monday.
