Three new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Vernon County

Vernon County Health Department has confirmed three more positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) bringing the county's total confirmed cases to 35. The first of these cases is symptomatic and currently hospitalized. The other two of these cases are asymptomatic and currently isolated at home.

The case investigation and contact tracing for the first new case is still ongoing at this time. The Vernon County Health Department staff will be contacting anyone who has been listed as a close contact to the positive case. Those contacts will be quarantined at home. The case investigation and contact tracing for the other two cases has been completed.

There are some low-risk community exposures related to one of the asymptomatic cases:

July 8, 2020

• Walmart, 1-1:30 p.m.

July 11, 2020

• Casey’s on Austin, 6-6:15p.m.

July 12, 2020

• St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10:15-11:20 a.m.

If you feel like you may have been exposed please monitor for signs or symptoms for 14 days. If you develop any symptoms contact you primary care provider or urgent care for further evaluation and testing. Symptoms include:

• Cough

• Fever

• Shortness of breath

• Chills

• Muscle aches

• Sore throat

• New loss of taste or smell

Individuals should continue to practice social distancing, when social distancing cannot be maintained wear a mask or face covering to take additional precautions. Always remember to clean/disinfect any high touched surfaces, wash their hands with soap and water routinely, use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available and avoid touching your face (especially eyes, nose and mouth).

Call before going to a clinic, urgent care, or ER if you feel you need to be evaluated.

Close contact means six feet or less for 15 minutes or more with a positive case.
