Nevada spikers downed by Neosho
The Nevada Lady Tiger volleyball team remains in search of its first victory, after falling to the Neosho Wildcats in three sets Monday night.
The non-conference home defeat, paired with Tuesday’s three-set loss to El Dorado Springs, moves Nevada to 0-5 overall.
Neosho looked sharp early, winning the first two sets handily — 25-15, 25-16. Nevada replied with a strong third set, leading late, but eventually relinquishing their advantage — as Neosho prevailed, 25-23.
Nevada stat-leaders included libero Grace Barnes with 20 digs, while setter Jade Feller dished out 15 assists. In her season-debut, Emma Leisure chipped in six digs and two aces, while Trinity Gayman tallied three blocks.
In the junior varsity matchup, Nevada (6-3) was upended in two sets by scores of 19-25, 19-25. In the C-team contest, Nevada (5-3-2) prevailed in three sets — 18-25, 25-5, 15-6.
Nevada’s varsity spikers were back in Wynn Gym Tuesday evening for a non-conference home match with rival El Dorado Springs.
For a second consecutive evening, Nevada's varsity squad absorbed a three-set sweep, falling by scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-18.After returning most of their key players from last season’s 28-win squad, the victory moved El Do to 4-0 on the young season. Feller finished with a team-high 20 assists, while Barnes recorded 19 digs. Nevada front-row hitter Delaney Hope, meanwhile, concluded with a team-high nine kills and two blocks.
In the preliminary matches, both Nevada’s junior varsity and C-team were victorious over El Do. The Nevada JV team (7-3)hammered El Do in a convincing two-set ssweep — 25-6, 25-13. Nevada's freshman team (6-3-2) drubbed the guests in a one-set match — 25-3
Middle School
The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth-grade teams tangled with Fort Scott Monday. Nevada’s eighth-grade A-team stormed back against visiting Fort Scott (Kan.) for the three-set victory — 16-25, 25-22, 25-23. Nevada’s eighth-grade B-team, meanwhile, downed Fort Scott in three sets — 27-25, 7-25, 15-5.
Nevada’s seventh-grade A-team was also victorious, drubbing Fort Scott 25-18, 25-10 — while Nevada’s seventh-grade B-team easily dispatched Fort Scott in two sets — 25-15, 25-13.
The middle school squads were back in action Tuesday, hosting Monett in a Big 8 Conference West division matchup.
Nevada’s eighth-grade A-team moved to 2-0 on the season, thumping the visitors in two sets — 25-17, 25-6. The eighth-grade B-team followed suit, winning 25-20, 26-24.
Nevada’s seventh-grade A-team also remained perfect breezing to a two-set sweep — 25-21, 25-8. The Nevada seventh-grade B-team prevailed in a one-set match, 25-16.
In their season-opener Sept. 10, Nevada’s seventh-grade A-team walloped host Seneca — 25-10, 25-18. The eighth-grade B-team was edged in a close two-set match — 19-25, 25-27.
Nevada’s eighth-grade A-team breezed to victory — 25-13, 25-21. The Nevada eighth-grade B-team was not in action.
