Discussion on water, wastewater management to continue Tuesday

Saturday, October 31, 2020

Nevada City Council met in special session Tuesday evening to discuss the future of the city's water and wastewater operations.

City Manager Mark Mitchell said Friday two entities, Alliance and People's Services, gave presentations before the council.

Mitchell said discussion of who shall be the future operator of Nevada's water and sewage system will continue in an open session meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

He explained the city has three choices moving forward: the first, direct Mitchell to enter negotiations with Alliance to continue as the water and wastewater operator, to negotiate with People's Service take over operation of the city's water and wastewater system, or lastly, to begin the process of bringing day-to-day operation of the water and wastewater system, "in house" – that is managed and operated directly by city employees and the city manager.

As of Friday afternoon, the agenda for Nevada City Council's Nov. 3 meeting had not yet been posted to the City's website.
