Sheldon stumbles at Montrose
The Sheldon High School boys basketball team did not need a win Friday night at Montrose to head into district play with some momentum.
The Panthers lost to the Blue Jays 71-66, but head coach Caleb Howerton said was proud of the way his team played.
"We played our butts off for three quarters," said Howerton, whose team struggled early but got a big boost out of its role players, not to mention 31 points from senior guard Judd Loyd. "If we do this tomorrow, we will upset Hume in districts."
Isaac Hall added 17 points and 15 rebounds, while William Chapman contributed seven points and eight assists.
The Lady Panthers did not fare so well in their contest, losing 59-28.
According to Sheldon head coach Jacob Well, not having a week of practice showed.
"The winter weather hurt the girls when it came to conditioning in the game. Struggled to box out and rebound and it hurt," he said. "Effort was there all game."
Junior Madison Garren led the team with 11 points. Sophomore Deborah Lamb chipped in eight.
