Fire destroys vacant home

A fire destroyed a vacant home at 437 East Pitcher Street on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was discovered by Chief Troy Denney who was travelling south on Osage Boulevard at about 4 p.m.. Chief Denney observed a column of black smoke and went to investigate.

"The home was about 25 percent involved with most of the flames coming from the front porch and what appeared to be the front room," Denney said.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in about an hour.

"The house was vacant at the time of the fire," Denney said. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation."

Eight firefighters and three apparatus responded to the fire and operated on scene for two hours.

This is incident number 429 for the Nevada Fire Department for the year.
