Nevada's bats go cold against Carthage

Nevada High School got off to a good start in its softball game at Carthage on Monday, but the Lady Tigers were unable to get much going on offense after the first inning — eventually losing the contest 6-1.

Senior Bailey Ast went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored the team's lone run on a passed ball in the top of the first frame.

Nevada managed just two other hits, though, one each off the bats of Skyler Burns and Peyton Eaton.

Six of the team's 16 strikeouts against Carthage pitcher Jensyn Elder were looking.

"She used her change up well and could locate her fastball on all four corners of the zone," stated NHS head coach Danny Penn, whose team (12-8) will host Smith-Cotton on Tuesday. "I was disappointed in our approach at the plate. I didn’t feel we were as competitive as we should have been."
