Blake Evan Foulk

Mike and Coral Foulk, Nevada, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Blake Evan Foulk. Blake was born at 9:46 a.m., on Aug. 10, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds and measured 20.25 inches. He joins a sister, Madison Foulk. Paternal grandparents are Kathy Pryor, Galena, Mo., and Allen and Sandy Foulk, Lamar. Paternal great-grandparent is Don Loiselle, Nevada. Paternal great-great-grandparent is Hazel Woods, Nevada. Maternal grandparents are Mike and Julie VanDerSchaaf, Nevada. Maternal great-grandparents are Lyle and Karlene Lent, Nevada, and Merril and Marilyn VanDerSchaaf, Pattonville, Texas. Maternal great-great-grandparent in Louise VanDerSchaaf, Sioux Center, Iowa.

Obituaries

Judge H.A. Kelso

Judge H.A. Kelso, the son of John W. and Mariam Belle Hereford, was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Alma, Neb., and passed away Wednesday Aug. 11, 2004, at 1:40 p.m. at the K.U. Medical Center at age 92.

He attended SMSU, then known as Springfield Teacher's College and the University of Colorado in Boulder. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1937 with a Doctor of Juris Prudence Degree. He returned to Nevada and was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Vernon County in 1938. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army as Tech Sergeant with the Judge Advocate's Office. Judge Kelso was united in marriage to the former Doradee Steward on Sept. 20, 1940. In 1948, he was elected Probate/ Magistrate Judge and Acting Juvenile Judge. In 1960, Governor John Dalton appointed Judge Kelso to the bench as Judge of the 28th Judicial Circuit. He was also an Honorary Colonel on Governor John Dalton's staff. He served as Judge of the 28th Judicial Circuit until retirement in 1976. In retirement he served as a Senior Judge with the Ethics Commission.

Judge Kelso served in many leadership roles in the community and in his church. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nevada and especially loved the years he spent teaching his Sunday School class. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Vernon County Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts, a charter member of the Nevada Jaycee's and was on the steering committee for the Nevada Centennial celebration. He was an avid farmer, pecan grower, hunter and fisherman. He was a dedicated conservationist and voted Farmer-Sportsman of the Year in 1966. Judge Kelso was a man of integrity with a great capacity for love and walked humbly with his Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Doradee, of the home; three daughters, Maridee Kelso Devore and her husband, Earl, of Ottawa, Kan., Constance Kelso Beaver and her husband, Robert, of Nevada, and Sylvia Kelso Tucker and her husband, Laurence, of Liberty, Mo. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Judge Kelso will be Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to the United Methodist Church or the H.A. and Doradee Kelso Scholarship Fund at Nevada High School. Service arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Deaths

Arthur R. Banwart

Arthur R. Banwart, 90, Lamar, died Aug. 11, 2004, at Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar. He was born in Lamar on Sept. 19, 1913, the son of Benjamin and Cecilia (Marti) Banwart. He married Ruth Miller on Aug. 26, 1945, in Burlington, Okla., and she preceded him in death.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Lamar.

He is survived by one son, Gene Banwart, Liberal; two daughters, Joan Baslee, Lockwood, Mo., and Gail Strahm, Rainbow, Texas; two brothers, Raymond Banwart, Fort Scott, Kan., and Lloyd Banwart, Springfield; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-grandson; two brothers, Harvey Banwart and Rawlin Banwart; and three sisters, Pearl and Marie Banwart and Clara Frank.

Services will be held at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lamar on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 6-8 p.m., at the Konantz-Warden Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Apostolic Church or Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, Mo., in care of the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kevin Baslee, Craig Baslee, Gary Banwart, Jason Banwart, Javan Strahm and Jerry Banwart.

Elisabeth Ann (Wallace) Wannow

Elisabeth Ann (Wallace) Wannow, 69, formerly of Nevada, died Aug. 10, 2004, in Wichita, Kan. She was born on July 11, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., to James O. and Lillian F. (Feldman) Wallace, she moved to Wichita in 1950. In 1955, he married John F.W. Wannow IV, who survives.

She is survived by a son, John Wannow, Conyers, Ga.; daughter, Nancy Hill, Redmond, Wash.; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Bailey.

Services will be held on Aug. 14, 2004, at St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita, Kan. Memorials are suggested to St. James Episcopal Church, Victory in the Valley and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Arrangements are by Cochran Mortuary.

Lucille Pettibon Butner

Lucille Pettibon Butner, 86, died Aug. 10, 2004. Services were held at the United Methodist Church on Aug. 13, 2004, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Musical selections were "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Lord's Prayer." Wes Morton was the soloist, and Karen Hertzberg the organist. Pallbearers were Michael Pettibon, Linden Post, Gregory Pettibon, Daniel Post, William "Bill" Martin and Eric Post. Honorary pallbearers were James Martin, Donald Post, Roy Martin, David Seitz, Ed Post, Walter Cochran, Dale Brockmeyer, Glen Noble and James Shannon. Interment was in Deerfield Cemetery. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
