Tanner Lee Wait

Mr. and Mrs. Travis Wait, Moundville, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Tanner Lee Wait. Tanner was born at 12:32 p.m., on Oct. 10, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces. Paternal grandparents are Tommy and Kathy Wait, Bronaugh. Paternal great-grandparents are J.R. and Shirly Wait, Nevada, and the late Tom and Thelma Gulliford. Maternal grandparents are Joe and Marsha Wunderly, Fulton, Kan. Maternal great-grandparents are the late Gene Slaughter, Madeline Slaughter, LaCygne, Kan., and the late Fred and Julia Wunderly.

Shirley A. Leavell

Shirley A. Leavell, 59, died Oct. 20, 2004. Services were held at Ferry Funeral Home on Oct. 22, at 2 p.m., with Bruce Belline officiating. Musical selections were "Come Home It's Suppertime" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain" Honorary pallbearers were Larry Hale, Jim Burns, Jack Everly, Keith Byram, Mike Byram, Kevin Byram, Kirk Davisson, Leonard Zoglmann, Charles Claflin, Derrick Turner, Cody Claffin, Rick Turner, Harry Pitts and Jason Irwin. Cremation services will follow. Arrangements by Ferry Funeral Home.

Malinda Welch

Malinda Welch, 101 years, transitioned this life on Oct. 21, 2004. She was the daughter of Samson and Amanda Dahmer.

She leaves three daughters, Mary Lou Burrows and her husband, Alvin Dwiane, Marjorie Johnston and her husband, Ray, and Myrle Jones, the youngest daughter. Also surviving her are 10 grandchildren, Ernest "Lynn" Welch, Erwin "Lee" Welch, Diane Welch Sparks, Steven Burrows, Malinda Johnston Stern, Lou Ann Johnston Trabue, Ray "Neal" Johnston, and Mike, Sandi and Doug Jones. She also leaves 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Richie, preceded her in death as did her three sisters, Clara Richardson, Ruth Dahmer and Miriam Woronick. Her son, Ernest Welch; grandsons, Richie Jones and Terry Burrows also preceded her.

Malinda spent most of her time in Deerfield where she and her husband operated a general store, then operated a farm south of Deerfield. She was active in her church where she taught Sunday School. She served on the board of the Deerfield Cemetery. She gave generously to many charitable organizations. She was self-educated; an avid reader and was very knowledgeable about politics and current events. The most important characteristic of her life was her faith in God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel at 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kan. Memorial services to be at the Deerfield Church of God in Deerfield, at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 25, followed by burial in the Deerfield Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to Deerfield Church of God or to Hospice, in lieu of flowers.
