Albert J. Pfeifer

Albert J. Pfeifer, 78, Hays, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Hays Medical Center. He was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Hays, Kan., the son of John P. and Josephine C. (Orth) Pfeifer. He married Irene C. Haas on Aug. 23, 1948, in Hays, Kan. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2003.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and worked in maintenance at Fort Hays State University. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, Kan., and the Ellis Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by five sons, Norman J., of Miamisburg, Ohio, Kenneth, J., of Red Oak, Texas, Maurice J. and Galen M., both of Hays, Kan., and Charles D., of Wichita, Kan.; six daughters, Karen M. Feighny, Eudora, Kan., Patricia J. Dean, formerly of Nevada, Jolene M. Whitehair, and Denise M. Pfeifer, all of Hays, Kan., Beverly L. Jones, of Wichita, Kan., and Stephanie S. Berland, of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, Walter J. Pfeifer, Ellis, Kan.; three sisters, Frances Southard and Alice Eichelberger, both of Wichita, Kan., and Josephine Wiesner, of Concordia, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, Kan. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hays, Kan., with graveside military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday and from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m., Saturday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, KS. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials for Masses or the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Building Fund.
