Charles Ross Douglas

Charles Ross Douglas, 78, Nevada, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Freeman West Health System, Joplin, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 25, 1926, in Springfield, to Edward Alan Douglas and Astrid Gertrude Bruce Douglas. He married Della M. Cross on Dec. 19, 2000, in Rich Hill, and she survives of the home.

He grew up in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Argentine High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Proctor and Gamble in Kansas City, Kan. Later he worked for Johnson County School District where he retired. His memberships included a 35-year member of the Eagles Lodge of Paola, Kan., and the Nevada Eagles Lodge No. 3770. He was also a Mason.

Survivors in addition to his wife Della, include six sons, Charles Douglas, Nevada, Gary Douglas, Casey, Ill., James Douglas, Moundville, Robert Douglas, Wellsville, Kan., Donald Douglas, Nevada, and Mike Douglas, Wellsville, Kan.; two daughters, Sarah Jo Williams, Nevada, and Mary Ann Rushing, Wellsville, Kan.; nine stepchildren including one stepson, Dale Taylor; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Mary Jane Benton, Kansas City, Kan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Jared Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home and the family receives friends 1-2 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
