George Alfred Gilman

George Alfred Gilman, 77, Nevada, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Fulton, Kan., to George Gilman and Lydia Womelsborf Gilman. He married June Ellen Pettibon on Oct. 15, 1950, in Deerfield. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2000.

He grew up in Mapleton, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Lawrence Saw Mill at Deerfield for a number of years. Later, he worked for Crane Plumbing in Nevada until his retirement.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Gilman, Nevada, David Gilman, Nevada, Douglas Gilman, Fort Scott, Kan., and Darryl Gilman, Nevada; two daughters, Judy Ann Rocco and Janie Fritter, both of Nevada; one brother, Otto Gilman, Tyson, Wash.; one sister, Opal Mitchner, Chanute, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Gilman in 1954.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, at the funeral home.
