Vera Irene Peters

Vera Irene Peters, 96, Nevada, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Glenwood, Md., following a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 9, 1908, in St. Louis, Mo., to John Johnson and Gertrude Allred Johnson. She married Henry W. Peters on July 29, 1970, in Sheldon. He preceded her in death in 1986.

She was born and raised in St. Louis and worked as a telephone operator in St. Louis, retiring in 1968. She came to Vernon County with her husband in 1970 to the family farm and resided there since. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Sheldon Chapter and the Telephone Pioneers of America, George Durant Chapter in St. Louis.

Survivors include one niece, Robin Vance, Glenwood, Mo.; and one nephew, Jack Peters, Milo; and a host of relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family receives friends 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home and friends may call now and until the hour of services.
