Hazel Fern Kasten

Hazel Fern Kasten, 86, formerly of Bronaugh, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born April 21, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Albert Goben and Bertha May Mapes Goben. She married Paul E. Kasten on Feb. 7, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo.

After graduating from Northeast High School in Kansas City, she attended beauty college. She worked for 15 years as a beautician and manager at Macy's and the Hartzfeld Department Stores in Kansas City. She owned and operated her own beauty salon in northeast Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nevada, and also attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Garland, Kan.

Survivors include her husband, Paul E. Kasten, of the home in Bronaugh; four nieces and four nephews. Her parents and a sister, Iola Anderson, preceded her in death.

The Rev. Kimberly Osborn, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nevada will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, at Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday prior to service time.
