Maxine P. Maxwell

Maxine P. Maxwell, 92, Nevada, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following an illness of several months. She was born Sept. 26, 1912, in Rinehart, Mo., to George W. Potter and Lillian Gregg Potter. She was married on Oct. 5, 1938, in Nevada, to Cecil Maxwell. He preceded her in death Nov. 12, 2003.

Mrs. Maxwell spent virtually her entire life in this area. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Thornton Bank, Farm & Home and in the family grocery business. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada. She was very active in the church and church organizations.

Survivors include two sisters, Madge Cox, Wichita, Kan., and Nina Nichelson, Hosington, Kan.; two nephews, Bill Nichelson, Hosington, Kan., and Larry Nichelson, Hayes, Kan.; one brother-in-law, Ray Maxwell, Nevada; one sister-in-law, Frances Edmunson, Birmingham, Ala.

Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada with the Rev. Greg Ferree officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

The family suggests that memorials may be made, in her honor, to the Presbyterian Village, Fort Scott, Kan., in care of the funeral home.
