Cora Imogene Barnes, 71, Walker, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Richards, to Willie Sherman Newton and Sylvia Abigail Schnedler Newton. She married Thomas Andrew Barnes on March 3, 1953, at Fort Crowder, Neosho, Mo., and he survives of the home.

She was born in Richards, reared in Nevada, and spent most of her life in Vernon County. She was a homemaker.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Andy, include two sons, Thomas A. Barnes Jr., Walker, and Billy Joe Barnes, Jonesboro, Ark.; two daughters, Sylvia M. Evans, Jal, N.M., and Donna Ann Ellis, El Dorado Springs; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert F. Newton, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Newton; and two sisters, Anna Jane Henning and Mary Freeman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June 20, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Saturday, June 18, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
