Dwight Wallace Ness, 72, of Sheldon, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Madison, S.D., to Arthur G. Ness and Emma Rose Mailloux Ness. He married Marjorie J. Orton on May 28, 1958, in Madison, S.D., and she survives of the home.

Dwight was born and raised in Madison, S.D. He attended school in Madison. At age 17, Dwight entered the U.S. Air Force and served in France during the Korean Conflict. He came to Nevada in 1965 from Madison. He worked for Culligan Soft Water in Nevada and at 3M in Nevada for 30 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Sheldon Lions Club and was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Marjorie, include two sons, Don Ness and his wife Deanna, Nevada, and Steve Ness and his wife, Erin, Lamar; four grandchildren, Bethany Stewart and her husband, Geoff, Bolivar, Brant Ness, Nevada, Steven Ness and Amber Ness, both of Lamar; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; one daughter, Lori Lynn; and one son, Daniel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor Kim Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield.
